Who we are

CMAS-US Scientific Committee

The CMAS-US Scientific Committee serves as a national hub for scientific dialogue, underwater research, and collaborative projects within the broader global diving community. As part of the World Underwater Federation (CMAS), we welcome all individuals and organizations who share our mission of using science and education to improve the quality of life and protect our planet’s waters.

Our committee works in coordination with CMAS teams across all five continents. Together, we focus on five core operational areas:

  • Underwater Cultural Heritage

  • Underwater Natural Heritage

  • Citizen Science

  • Environment & Sustainability

  • Scientific Diving

At the heart of our work is a simple belief:
Science should serve people.
We promote education, conservation, and research that support healthier, more sustainable communities and ecosystems.

We train scientific divers to the highest standards of safety, responsibility, and environmental consciousness. We support researchers across universities, nonprofit groups, environmental organizations, and government agencies. We collaborate with CMAS-affiliated partners and scientific institutions to restore aquatic habitats, protect submerged heritage, and increase the public’s understanding of underwater science.

To achieve these objectives, the CMAS-US Scientific Committee forms strategic alliances with other CMAS committees, governmental agencies, scientific organizations, private partners, and conservation groups.

MISSION
